Why not? The weather this time of year is amazing, plus no packing, finding a pet sitter, or worrying about the garden burning to a crisp while we are gone. Following is an overdue picture of the short sleeved cardigan I finished last month, along with some butterfly photos from our walk through the nearby Ganargua Creek Meadows Preserve this (90 F high-humidity) morning. The butterflies love this weather and at any one time there were 20 or so visible fluttering around.
The Rochester Butterfly Club and Genesee Land Trust led the walk. I've been a member and volunteer for our local land trust for close to twenty years, and it has been very worthwhile. The Trust has helped save a lot of special land, including a rare old-growth forest right near where I grew up and used to explore as an older child.
Finished cardigan, as promised. (See earlier blog entry). I also made the necklace and earrings to go with it. I enjoy working with color and texture. I am currently working on a sweater I have designed myself, based on a crochet pattern I saw and liked. Didn't feel inspired to learn crochet yet, although I'm sure I won't be able to resist forever. I like the textures and designs that you can create using crochet.
Baltimore Checkerspot on my hand taking up salts. This one obviously has escaped a bird attack. It is thought that butterfly's wings are designed to distract would-be predators from their more vulnerable bodies. We saw at least 30 of these butterflies today.
A beautiful field, but very hot, and full of poison ivy. Thus the long pants. I'm very allergic to the stuff--I can barely look at it without itching.
