Another foot of snow in the past two days—proof that spring is not quite here. The blackbirds I saw flying north two days ago are surely regretting their return. Now, the sun is out, but step outside—the temperature is below 20 degrees F and the 30mph wind chill is atrocious. A good excuse to "nest" inside and attend to some unfinished business.
First, I planted my seeds. We have a large sunny picture window over our breakfast bar, perfect for breakfasts—and growing seedlings. This year I am starting Aquilegia 'Sweet Rainbows' (columbine), Nicotiana (flowering tobacco), Agastache Cana (hyssop), all scented plants. I'm also starting zinnia, ganzania, and Aster 'Composition' a cultivar of our native New England aster.

My windowsill with plant trays. Note the snow-covered garden outside.
I also finished a necklace and earring set. Made of iolite, a glass shell, amazonite, labradorite, and sterling silver, it should go nicely with the sweater I'm finishing. I blocked the body last weekend, and the last arm is 2/3rds of the way done.

The weather is predicted to warm up a bit next week. None too soon, my spring witchazel is already blooming —the yellow flowers are pretty against the snow, though.
